Battery Recycling

  • Tape each battery terminal with non-conductive tape or place each battery in a sealed clear bag. Take care not to cover the battery type name since each battery will be segregated by the type prior to recycling.

  • Store in a plastic container or card board box. Label the container "Used Batteries for Recycling".
  • UCF does NOT recycle spent alkaline and spent non-rechargeable lithium batteries, these may be disposed of in the trash.

  • Call EHS 407-823-0707 to pick up business-related used batteries and to handle and dispose of leaking batteries. Online requests can be placed using EHSA hazardous waste request form. Battery recycling containers are also located at the UCF Computer Store

At this time UCF EHS recycles the following types of batteries:

  • Carbon zinc
  • Lead acid
  • Rechargeable batteries from cell phones, power tools, computers, radios etc.
  • Lithium Ion
  • Nickel Cadmium
  • Nickel metal Hydride
  • Button Batteries
